A shower is a place to find peace and tranquility and cleanse away the day. A shower is out of reach for over 75,000 neighbors of ours. Homelessness is a rampant problem in Los Angeles that is so pervasive, yet we’re often shielded from the effect it takes on people. Whether sleeping on a friend’s couch, sleeping in a car, or sleeping on the street, people without a place to call home are not afforded this ritual so many of us take for granted.
a shower depicts a shower head and stream of water cut by hand into window film. With the subtle reflection of yourself shown, the work translates the thought of taking a shower while it is physically out of reach. Your reflection is meaningful to seeing yourself there. As shown in the work, the shower is absent, and all that is left is you standing there with the memory of your last. The intention you have shown to focus on this work and visualize is an intention your neighbor also needs for you to see them as a person and act to restore their needs.
